In 1915 Sackmaker J&HM Dickson Ltd were established primarily to manufacture Hessian Sandbags for the Allied forces during the First World War.
Just over 100 years later we have been called upon to supply authentic Hessian Sandbags for the newly released Sir Sam Mendes blockbuster Movie 1917 which has won two Golden Globes and an Oscar nomination.
During the dark winter months last year, we filled & hand tied over 35,000 Hessian sandbags to various weight specifications which were then used to dress the Movie set at Bovington Camp in Dorset
with our despatch team coordinating precisely timed deliveries of over 20 truckloads during the set up period.
The amount of detail & effort put into making a Movie like this using pioneering filming techniques is quite staggering & well worth having a look behind the scenes here:
In some ways it felt like history repeating itself three generations later & for a company who actually supplied Sandbags to the forces in the dark days of 1917 it brings a genuine feeling of authenticity to a project we have taken great pride being involved with. We are now involved in a number of similar smaller scale film projects & welcome enquiries from all Movie Production Companies.
Sackmaker supply both empty & filled Sandbags in Reuseable Woven Polypropylene & Traditional Hessian suitable for a broad range of other applications including flood defence, traffic management & ballasting requirements.
